Hello visitors of TheHorse.com!

Welcome to “At Home with Horses” and thank you for visiting! My name is Michelle Anderson, and I’m the most recent addition to The Horse team.

Working in my new role as digital editor/producer of TheHorse.com under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Stephanie Church, I’m responsible for the creation of digital features, such as videos, slideshows, and live events, as well as guiding the editorial content of our social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and others.

I’m going to guess that you and I are a lot alike. As I write this, hay is stuck to my sweater; my manicure is shot from pulling manes yesterday; and I’m a little concerned that my horses’ blankets won’t stand up to an incoming rainstorm the weatherman predicted. Our two horses (sometimes three) live in the backyard of my husband and my little ranchette, where I manage their daily care. Every bump, runny nose, and feeding is my responsibility. And, like you, I regularly turn to The Horse and TheHorse.com for current, trusted (and literally vetted) information to help me better care for my animals.

That’s one of the reasons I’m excited to join the knowledgeable horsewomen who make up The Horse’s editorial staff. The other reason? This fast-changing world of digital publishing.

I got my professional start in the equine-related publishing in 1999, and since that time I’ve worked on some of the best titles in the industry and with professionals whom I’m proud to call mentors and friends. I’ve also watched the Internet and social media change how we consume information and connect with each other as horsemen and –women. The way you learn about horse care today is, in many ways, different than just 10 years ago.

With all that in mind, we have some exciting changes and great information coming in 2012 on TheHorse.com. Our team is working hard behind the scenes to make information on TheHorse.com even easier for you to find and use. Until then, I’d enjoy hearing your feedback, requests, and suggestions on how the TheHorse.com can better serve your needs. We’re happy to hear kudos, too. If you like something, please let us know! My email address is manderson@TheHorse.com, and I’m on Twitter @micnicanderson.

And, lastly, I'd like to explain my blog's title. No matter where I am physically, I'm always most at home when I'm with horses. It's the nickers I hear the moment I step outside and my boot hits the deck. It's circling the competition ring before putting in a hard-earned dressage score. It's sitting around a campfire and watching the horses sleep after a long day of riding.

I'm curious, what does "At Home with Horses" mean to you?

I look forward to getting to know The Horse’s online community, and (to steal my favorite valediction from a friend) until next time, may you ride in sunshine.
